The shared musical heritage in the Balkan region, before the determination of today's national borders, was shaped mainly by overlapping public places - but in today's political reality this is not (positively) recognized. This collective memory, formed in relation to traditional musical pieces and their narratives, holds the answer to a shared memory that transcends national borders. tracking the authentic repertoire is dedicated to these musical traditions - in a multimedia stage installation, storytelling and live musical performances meet visually and auditorily prepared documentation - thus an imaginary public space for people and music is created in the CLB Berlin, which makes this phenomenon (re)experienceable. The space represents the public aspects in their diversity - unorthodox sacred and spiritual places (tekke, monastery), public squares (Han/Xan, Avlija, Megdan), archetypal meeting places (Gudvo) as well as secular community spaces. The bar of the Mejhane/Kafana/Taverna will be open throughout the evening and an open exchange is offered after the performance.
The musical, auditory and visual material was collected during a research and documentation trip lasting several weeks.
